Danica Patrick breaks silence on Sky Sports F1 exit ahead of 2026 season opener

Broadcasting veteran concludes five-year stint with the network as iconic female racers Naomi Schiff and Natalie Pinkham return to the paddock lineup

The landscape of Formula 1 broadcasting has shifted significantly just days before the 2026 season debut at the Australian Grand Prix.

Danica Patrick, a cornerstone of the Sky Sports F1 analysis team since 2021, has officially confirmed her departure from the network.

The announcement ends weeks of quiet speculation that began when the broadcaster omitted the former IndyCar star from its promotional materials and coverage schedules for the Melbourne weekend.

Patrick, whose 2008 victory at the Indy Japan 300 remains a landmark moment for women in elite motorsport, leaves a void in the American perspective that Sky has leaned on during the sport's massive commercial expansion in the United States.

Patrick broke her silence on the matter via Instagram, clarifying that the decision to step away was her own. She reflected on a half-decade of traveling the global circuit, noting that she had initiated the exit following the final checkered flag of the 2025 season.

"From my first @skysportsf1 race in Austin to my last 5 years later... I had such a blast!" she shared with her followers.

Her tenure coincided with a transformative era for the series, characterized by a younger demographic and record-breaking attendance figures at North American venues.

"The sky team was so much fun (thank you all), I saw so many amazing new race tracks and cities, and got to be part of a huge boom in F1!" she wrote.

The timing of this roster change coincides with the return of two highly regarded figures to the Sky Sports team. Naomi Schiff is set to resume her duties as a lead analyst following a period of maternity leave, bringing her technical background and recent racing experience back to the grid.

Simultaneously, veteran presenter Natalie Pinkham is returning to the screen after a six-month recovery period following major neck surgery. The reintegration of Schiff and Pinkham provides a sense of continuity for the network as it navigates the loss of Patrick's high-profile presence.

The 44-year-old Patrick, who was also the first woman to secure a pole position in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2010, has often used her platform to discuss matters beyond the track, including her public support for President Donald Trump during his campaign for the 47th presidency.

As the F1 circus prepares to descend on Albert Park, Patrick appears content to transition from participant to spectator. She emphasized her continued passion for the technical drama of the sport despite her professional exit.

"I called after the last race in 2025 and said it was time for me to move on and I was so grateful for the opportunity and experience I was given!" she explained in her post.
